In Loving Memory of Glennis Kines
August 15, 1950 – March 1, 2025
The world has lost a man of quiet resilience, a man whose life was woven together with the restless hum of the open road, the sweet laughter of grandchildren, and the never-ending pull of loyalty to his family and friends and to teams that rose and fell with the seasons. Glennis Kines, seventy-four years old, passed from this world on March 1, 2025, leaving behind the echo of a life well-worn, like the faded denim of an old trucker’s jacket, softened by time, seasoned with long miles and deep memories.
Born on August 15, 1950, to the late Luther and Gladys Kines, Glennis entered a world that was already shifting and changing, a world where strong men earned their keep with calloused hands and long hours. He made his way as a truck driver, carving his place on highways that stretched on like lifelines, each mile telling its own story. He retired from the profession, but the road never truly left his soul. In his later years, he found a different kind of purpose. One that was softer and sweeter. The kind of purpose that comes when grandchildren wrap their small arms around you and call you their own. He loved his grandchildren, Jake Barnett, Houston Wright, Lyndsay Allison, Skylar Jones, Dalton Jones and Cameron Jones with a tenderness that only grew deeper with the arrival of great-grandchildren, Jake and Houston, each one another reason to linger a little longer on this earth.
Family meant everything to Glennis, and he knew the sting of loss as deeply as he knew the warmth of love. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Luther Kines, Michael Kines, and Kerry Kines, and by his sisters, Toni Banks and Gene McCroy. However, even as he bid farewell to those who went before him, he carried on, bound by the ties of the living. His daughters, Felicia Barnett and Valerie Jones, remained the anchors of his heart, while his brother, Ray Kines, stood beside him through the shifting tides of time. And then, there was Teresa Furnich, a special friend whose presence in his life was a steady, comforting kind of sanctuary amid life’s uncertainties.
Glennis was a man of passions, and they ran as deep as his roots. He was an unwavering supporter of the Atlanta Braves, a devoted fan of the Georgia Bulldogs, and a loyal follower of the Atlanta Falcons, standing by them in victory and defeat alike. NASCAR was another of his great loves, the thrill of the race stirring something restless within him, something that perhaps spoke to the part of him that had spent so much of his life in motion. Yet, for all these things, there was also his strong, steady, and certain faith. Glennis was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, a place where he found belonging and peace.
On Friday, March 7, 2025, those who knew and loved Glennis will gather to honor his life at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home chapel. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM, led by Pastor Jimmy Carter. The men who will bear him to his final rest; Jake Barnett, Houston Wright, Billy Kines, Ray Kines, Michael Kines, and Kevin Kines, will do so with the solemn understanding that some burdens are heavy, but some are sacred. Honorary pallbearers, Teresa Furnich and Howard Allison, will stand as living testaments to the bonds that cannot be broken, even in death.
His journey here is done, but the memory of Glennis lingers, like the scent of rain on warm pavement, like the low hum of a song that won’t quite leave your mind. And somewhere, on a road that stretches out beyond the horizon.
Glennis is still driving, still moving, the wind rushing past, the roar of engines in the distance, free at last.
