Mr. Harry Glen Flemister Sr., age 91 of Rome, Ga. passed away at his home Sept 27, 2022 after battling COPD for the last several years. Mr. Flemister was born in Cherokee, Ala. on Dec 9, 1930, the son of the late Carl Flemister and Lena Wright Flemister.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 yrs., Betty Bryan Flemister, infant son, Joseph; his siblings, Irene Hale, Inez Hale, Ray Flemister and Catherine (Peg) Bailey. Mr. Flemister served in the US Navy from 1948-1952 aboard the Destroyer USS Southerland and retired from the Floyd County Health Dept. after 30 years as an X-Ray Technician. He was an Asst. Scout Master with the Boy Scout Troop #23 in Lindale, Ga for many years when his sons were young. Mr. Flemister was a dedicated member of the Baptist faith. He never met a stranger, enjoyed watching Gunsmoke & the birds, and sitting on the porch with his cat "Meow Meow".
Survivors include his sons Gregory Flemister (Donna) of Cedartown, Ga., Harry "Glen" Flemister Jr. (Lori) of Rome, Ga; daughters Lori Flemister-Cothran (Matt) of Afton, Va., and Beth Flemister. 8 grandchildren; Josh Flemister (Brandy), Bryan Flemister, Bradley Weeks (Heather), Chris Loyd, Alex Bowes, Nick Cothran, Dylan Flemister (Brittany Sherbert), and Bailey Cothran. 5 great grandchildren; Riley, Tatum, Nash, Camden and Jaxon. 6 Step grandchildren; Jolie, Seth, Sean, Matt, Ryan, and Chelsey. 5 step great grandchildren; Payton, Joshua, Colin, Holden, and Delilah, and 1 step great great grandchild; Zayne. Niece Pat Blomquist (Chuck), and a special neighbor, Bonnie Maglakelidze. Also special thanks to Aranda Carter for her many cakes and visits; he always looked so forward to those.
The family will receive friends Sunday, October 2nd, from 1:00-2:00 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home located at 2750 Shorter Ave, with the service immediately following, with Rev. Alan Fuller officiating. Interment will be on Monday, October 3rd at 2pm at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Military Honors by Shanklin-Attaway American Legion Post 5.
