Harry Janes Obituary

Harry was born in Chicago, IL and as a child his family moved to Philadelphia, PA and later to Maple Rapids, MI. At 18 Harry was drafted into the US Army where he served in Vietnam from May 28, 1969, to April 21, 1971, as a Specialist 4 (SP4). In typical Harry fashion he excelled in the Army earning the Army's Air Medal for Meritorious Achievement while participating in Aerial Flight during the period of June 10, 1970, through October 20, 1970. He also received two Bronze Stars for heroism in Ground Combat on August 23, 1970, and the second for Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations against Hostile Forces during the period of October 10, 1970, through November 15, 1970. Harry received two Purple Hearts on September 4, 1970, and the 2nd on an unknown date. Upon release Harry attended Lansing Community College and Michigan State to become a Respiratory Therapist, all while raising his son Harry Jr. as a single parent along with help from his sister Ginger and his mother Gladys. Harry spent the first part of his career as a neonatal respiratory therapist and then moved on to be a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Tech in Michigan.

Upon retirement Harry moved to Florida where he met the love of his life and current wife, Bridget. They had 10 wonderful adventure filled years. They moved to Rome, GA where Harry started Harry's Wildlife Taxidermy. Harry had a love for bowling having worked in a bowling Ally while putting himself through college. While in Rome he was honored by the Sunrisers with bowler of the Year and the Sunday Night Mixers with a lifetime achievement award. Harry had a zeal for life and lived every moment to the fullest, he will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Janes and Gladys Janes. Survivors include the love of his life, his wife Bridget Janes, his sons, Harry Janes Jr. (Jennifer), Robert Janes (Kristin), Shawn Janes (Margaret), his daughter Nicky Osbourne (Ricky), his grandchildren, Rashell Janes, Ashlyn Romero, Aubrey Janes, Nate Janes, his brother Joseph Janes (Sandy), his sisters Virginia Janes and Joan Kirkland.

The family will hold a visitation on Thursday, June 08, 2023, from 1:00PM till 2:00PM following a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00PM at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Glosson officiating.
