Hazel W. McDowell, age 71, of Rome passed away Friday, January 22, 2016 in a local hospital.
A native of Bartow County, Mrs. McDowell was born July 10, 1944 daughter of the late Walter and Mary Hendrix Wade. Prior to retirement, she worked with Bell South as an engineer and later did contract work for Georgia Power. She was a very religious person and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Mrs. McDowell loved her family and cats, reading, antiques, and watching the Antiques Roadshow. She was preceded in death by her husband Steve R. McDowell in 1985, brother Ray Wade in 1990, and nephew Jeff Wade in 2013.
Survivors include her son Anthony McDowell and his wife Tammy, of Temple; daughter Amy McDowell Sewell and her husband Shanon of Great Falls MT; grandchildren Jonathan Bearden and Shaye Parker; sister in law Mary Ann Wade; niece Gail Darnell and her husband Tommy, great niece Ashley Woodall and her husband James, and great great nieces Jayden and Maggie Woodall.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Tuesday, January 26, 2016 in the Chapel of Parnick Jennings Sr.'s Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Avenue with Dr. Rodger Whorton and Reverend Ken Hinkley officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 PM at the funeral home.
