In Loving Memory of James “Jim” Roland Bowers
March 19, 1948 – July 11, 2024
James “Jim” Roland Bowers, 76, of Rome, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024. He was born to the late James Lewis Bowers and Ethelyn Slaughter Bowers on March 19, 1948, in Trion, Georgia.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of thirty years, Paula Bowers; his beloved sons, Evan, Ryan, Chris (Emily), and Joey (Tiffany); and his cherished grandchildren, Anna, Landen, Braden, Katie, Bella and Trace. His brothers, Roy Bowers (Ravonda) and Rick Bowers, his sister in law Linda Betts and mom in law Mary Sergeuk both from California. Also his loyal twelve rescue cats, who were a testament to his loving and nurturing spirit. Jim is predeceased by his son, Drew, and his sister-in-law, Carol Bowers.
Wanting to serve his country and his fellow man in a meaningful way, Jim joined United States Navy, serving with unwavering dedication for four years aboard the USS Coral Sea aircraft carrier as an aviation electrician. His commitment to keeping America’s planes safe and operational during the Vietnam War exemplified his bravery and patriotism. Following his military service, Jim pursued a career in education, obtaining his six-year specialist degree. Having a passion for shaping young minds, fostering growth, and making a positive impact on future generations, he dedicated thirty-one years of his life to Coosa High School and FCTHS as a special needs vocational instructor.
Jim’s love for music was a constant source of joy and inspiration. An avid Jimmy Buffet fan and proud Parrot Head, he found solace and happiness in the laid-back, tropical melodies that spoke to his adventurous spirit. Travel was another of Jim’s great loves. He relished the opportunity to explore new places, experience diverse cultures, and create lasting memories with his family.
Jim had a special talent for decorating for the holidays, transforming his home into a festive wonderland that brought joy to all who saw it, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and spreading happiness. A devoted Georgia Bulldogs football fan, Jim’s enthusiasm for the team was infectious, and he shared many exciting moments with friends and family cheering them on.
Jim’s greatest love, however, was for his wife, Paula. Their thirty years together were filled with unwavering support, deep affection, and shared dreams. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his life, and he found immense joy in their presence and happiness.
Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, dedication, and joy will forever be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends. A special thanks for his love and care to his compassionate caregiver Dalton Moore from Affinity Hospice.
Services to honor Jim’s life of service and commitment will be held on Wednesday, July 17 at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel. The viewing will begin at 4:00 PM and the service will follow immediately at 6:00 PM.
Parnick Jennings Good Shepherd Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
