In Loving Memory of
James David "Doc" Hardin
April 26, 1946 - September 22, 2024
On Sunday, September 22, 2024, James David “Doc” Hardin, age 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Rome, Georgia, with his devoted family by his side. While his presence will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, and dedication to those he held dear will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Doc leaves behind a loving wife of forty years, Anita Hardin, his son, James Taylor Hardin, his daughter, Holly Cheyenne Hardin, five dogs that he adored, his sister, Luan Hicks (Scotty), his sisters-in-law, Veleta Brown (Barry), Rita Bierkamp (David), and Reva Knowles (Gary), along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Doc is preceded in death by his parents, James Leon Hardin and Barbara Jo Hardin, as well as his father-in-law, Hugh Leath and mother-in-law Christine Leath.
Doc was more than just a family man—he was a dedicated worker and a pillar in his community. He graduated from Coosa High School back in 1965, then he worked tirelessly for many years at Inland in Coosa, Georgia, where he became known not just for his work ethic, but for the friendships he cultivated there. After years of service, Doc retired in 2009, leaving behind a legacy of respect and admiration from his colleagues.
Doc’s love for life extended to his passions, including his deep devotion to sports. A proud fan of the Atlanta Braves, Doc was never happier than when they scored, eagerly standing to perform the Tomahawk Chop. His love for Georgia’s teams didn’t stop there—he was also a steadfast supporter of the Atlanta Falcons, cheering them on with the same enthusiasm he brought to everything he loved.
Doc had a special place in his heart for classic cars, admiring their beauty and craftsmanship. In his younger years, his love for music led him to play the drums in high school, and though the drumsticks may have been set aside, his rhythm never left him.
Though Doc’s physical presence has left us, his spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, loyalty, and zest for life will remain with us always.
A graveside service to celebrate Doc’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Beech Creek Methodist Church. Pastor Alfred Little will be officiating, offering words of comfort and tribute to a man who meant so much to so many.
