James Arlin Washington Locklear, 86, of Rome passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018.
James was born on February 22, 1932 in Fort Payne, Alabama, son of the late William Jack Locklear and Lena Frances Isom Locklear. He was a veteran and was employed as a mechanic with Ozment Brothers Service Station and John Deere dealership, and Rome Seed and Feed. He also had a shop at his home, and was known as "the lawnmower man". James attended the Eden Valley Baptist Church and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by an infant son Rodney and infant daughter Debra, his parents; brothers William Roland, Charles Olin, Watson Lamar, and Osie Dwight "Squeaky" Locklear and a sister Barbara Beasley-Hardin.
Survivors include his sons Tony and Randall (Janet) Locklear; grandchildren TJ, Tyler (Kaitlyn), and Taylor Locklear; seven great grandchildren sister in law, Margaret Locklear, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be conducted at 5 P.M. on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Eden Valley Baptist Church with Reverend Tyler Smith officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Honor Guard of the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5, American Legion.
