James Vernon Shaw
August 27, 1942-February 3, 2025
James Vernon Shaw, 82, went to be with Jesus on Monday, February 3, 2025 at a local hospital in Rome, Ga.
Survivors include brother Norman Shaw and brother-in-law Nelson Smith. A multitude of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends survive.
Preceded in death include his mother Georgia Yarbrough Shaw, father, Leland Shaw, Brother, Bill Shaw, Sister, Betty Ann Smith (Shaw), Sister-in-law, Earnestine Shaw, and nephew, Matt Shaw.
James was born in Floyd County, Georgia on August 27, 1942, the son of late Leland Franklin Shaw and the late Georgia Atla Yarbrough Shaw. He was a long-time resident of Rome, Georgia. James was a graduate of Johnson High School. He served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Vietnam from 1964 to 1966. James was a member of the Floyd Springs Lodge #167 and a member of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church in Armuchee where he served several years as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher.
James was an avid UGA fan, a Waffle House lover, and a friend to all. He will be greatly missed.
Graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 2:00PM by Reverend Scott Smith and Pastor David Cain will be officiating at Floyd Memory Gardens.
