Janet Charlene Smith
November 11, 1949 – January 30, 2026
Janet Charlene Smith, age 76, of Silver Creek, Georgia, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of January 30, 2026.
Born on November 11, 1949, in Rome, Georgia, Janet spent her early childhood growing up in Celanese. At the age of 11, she moved with her family to Cherokee Acres, in West Rome.where she continued to grow into the woman so many would later admire for her strength and dependability.
Janet graduated from West Rome High School in 1967, where she was an active member of the school band, an experience she carried with pride. Following high school, she continued her education at Berry College, where she studied for two years, valuing learning and personal growth throughout her life.
Janet was married for over 40 years to her beloved husband, John Gregory “Decky” Smith, who preceded her in death in 2020. Together they built a life rooted in commitment, perseverance, and love. She was a devoted mother to her son, Andrew Gregory Smith, whom she cared for with extraordinary dedication for more than 33 years. Janet’s role as a caregiver defined much of her life and spoke volumes about her compassion, patience, and selflessness.
A hardworking and dependable woman, Janet spent over 30 years working with Sears, serving both the Rome and Atlanta locations. Earlier in life, she also worked alongside her husband in their business. Known for her loyalty and strong work ethic, she was respected by coworkers and admired by those who knew her.
Janet had a love for jewelry and enjoyed collecting pieces that reflected her personality, classic, meaningful, and timeless. She was a faithful supporter of many charitable causes and lived her life guided by generosity and quiet faith. Formerly a member of Cornerstone Church, she remained connected to her spiritual roots even after becoming disabled.
She is survived by her son, Andrew Gregory Smith; son her brother and her sister-in-law, Denison and Joan Rush; a special sister-in-law, Nancy Brooks; and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Jimmy Walsh, and his wife, Tonya. Janet also leaves behind extended family and friends who will remember her as a loyal, caring, and deeply dependable woman.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice, honoring Janet’s lifelong spirit of giving.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. followed by a Graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at Oaknoll memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rome, Georgia with the Reverend Randy Lambert officiating .
Janet’s legacy lives on in the lives she touched through her love, sacrifice, and steadfast heart. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
