Jean Anderson Obituary

In Loving Memory of Jean Wilkes Anderson
August 3, 1934 – March 19, 2024

With hearts heavy with loss but uplifted by her enduring spirit, we honor the life of Ewell Jean Wilkes Anderson, who passed away at the age of 89 on March 19, 2024, in Rome, Georgia. Born into the loving arms of Porter Poff and Kathryn Morris on a sunny day in Manchester, Tennessee, Ewell’s journey through life was one marked by an unwavering commitment to her family, her faith, and a work ethic that inspired all who knew her.

Jean’s early passion for helping others was evident through her dedicated service in nursing, a profession where she offered comfort and care for a decade. In 1969, her journey took her from the heart of Alabama to Rome, Georgia, where she channeled her entrepreneurial spirit into the Shoe Barn. For thirty years, this store wasn’t just a business but a testimony to Jean's hard work, determination, and the love she poured into her community.

Beyond her professional achievements, Jean's heart was always with her family and her faith. She was a pillar of strength and love for her children, Brent Wilkes, Karen Floyd, and Suzy Blackwell, and her affection knew no bounds when it came to her grandchildren, Hunter Lane, Tyler Floyd, Chuck Floyd, Ali Smith, and Alex Dorton. Her brother, Wendell Poff, and sister, Louise Sharp, also share in this legacy of love and resilience.

Jean’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. A devoted member of Faith Baptist Church in Gaylesville, Alabama, her commitment to her beliefs was unwavering. It was here that she found solace, strength, and community, embodying the teachings of love and compassion that she held so dear.

As we prepare to celebrate Jean’s remarkable life on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel with a Visitation for friends and family from 12:00 PM until the Funeral Service Hour at 2:00 PM, Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, we reflect on the immeasurable impact she had on those around her. Her legacy is not just in the business she built or the care she provided as a nurse but in the love she shared with her family, the faith that guided her, and the unwavering strength and grace she exhibited every day.

Parnick Jennings Good Shepherd Funeral Home is honored to assist the Anderson family during this time and will announce the service details shortly. We invite all who knew and loved Jean to join us in remembering a life so beautifully lived and a soul so deeply loved.
