Jean Lucas Obituary

In Loving Memory of

Jean DeAngelo Lucas

September 16, 2006 – July 21, 2025

Jean DeAngelo Lucas’ life was uncommonly precious as it was brief and burned so incredibly bright that the lives of those he touched will be forever scorch-marked by his brilliance. Their light forever rearranged, their shadows gentled, and their silence deepened.

Born on September day in 2006 in Rome, Georgia, to Juana Amalia Lucas, Jean came into this world already carrying a story much larger than himself. From the very first, he bore both the fragility and the fierce will of the stars, as if God had written into his body a paradox; one that would confound doctors, defy odds, and astonish hearts.

He was a child born under the heavy weight of fucosidosis, a rare disorder that aimed to dim the brilliance of his mind and body. The learned men spoke of limits; they said six years, perhaps less. But what they did not measure was the force of a soul determined to shine. Jean lived not six, but eighteen years, each one carved in courage, joy, and radiant defiance. He did not simply survive, he transcended.

Jean was a boy who laughed often and easily. His smile was not so much a gesture as it was an event lighting up the faces of those who beheld it, warming his parents, his brothers, his extended family, and any soul favored by God enough to witness his quiet triumphs. He was strong; no, not with the strength of muscle, but with the strength of spirit that does not bow to diagnosis or despair.

He loved the band Coldplay, and especially the song Yellow. That song, gentle, unassuming and cosmic became his anthem. In it, his family found a language for the love they bore for him: “Look at the stars, look how they shine for you…” In their universe, Jean was the yellow, their sun, burning warm and gold at the center of their lives. They orbited him with reverence, drawn in by the gravity of his tenderness, his light, his improbable years.

He is survived by his devoted parents, Pedro and Juana, and by his brothers, Ivan A. Yac and Pierre A. Yac. He also leaves behind a constellation of aunts, uncles, cousins, and loved ones who carry his memory now like a flame cupped in careful hands.

A visitation service to honor Jean’s brief but incandescent life will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025, from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Good Shepherd Funeral Home following the Funeral Service at 9:00PM. Pastor Moises Delgado will officiate the remembrance.

Though Jean’s journey on earth is complete, the echo of his life will long remain, resounding through memory, through music, and in the hush of those moments when light falls golden and soft, and we remember that even the briefest stars blaze brightly.

Jean’s family has entrusted his final arrangements to the care of Good Shepherd Funeral Home.
