Jeanette Couey

Jeanette Couey, age 99, born November 21, 1923 in Rome, GA passed away on April 13, 2023.

Jeanette was an amazing mother and a strong woman, loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly. She was Business Woman of the Year in 1976. Jeanette was of Christian faith and attended Fellowship Baptist Church and also a long-time member of West Rome Baptist Church. She loved traveling and had some fond memories of her adventures, some of her favorite places she visited were Hawaii and Nova Scotia. She worked many years at Harvey Given Real Estate and she retired from the City of Rome Water Department.

She was preceded in death by her father Charles Underwood, mother Nettie Underwood, brother James Underwood, husband Malcolm D. Couey, son Charles Smith, granddaughters Tamela J. Smith and Alice J. Smith.

She is survived by her son Donald O. Smith, granddaughters Janet Jackson and Michelle L. Mincey, grandsons David K. Smith, Tim Queen, and Thomas Queen. Along with 7 great grandchildren, Tamela Queen Carter, Ryan Mincey, Caleb Mincey, Sarah Queen, Simon Maze, Matthew Smith and Colin Smith. Her niece Nancy Couey Hudson and Nephew Dean Couey.

Pallbearers include, Dean Couey, David Smith, JJ Jackson, Ryan Mincey, Caleb Mincey and Nick Carter.

The family is holding a visitation at Good Shepherd Funeral Home on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 3:00PM till funeral service at 4:00PM following Interment at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Pastor Brady Fortenberry will be officiating.
