The life of Jerry Edward Barnes, seventy-five, of Rome, Georgia, quietly turned from time into eternity on Thursday, March 13, 2025. Born on a day of fireworks and celebration, July 4, 1949, in the rolling hills of Cherokee County, Alabama, he entered the world as the beloved son of the late Edward G. Barnes and the late Sara Lee Smith.

Life, for Jerry, was not measured merely in years but in the steady rhythm of work, faith, and love. He was a man of strong hands and an unshaken spirit, laboring diligently for decades in the carpet mills until his well-earned retirement in 2012. Yet his true work was not in the looms and fibers of industry but in the lives he touched with quiet kindness, steadfast loyalty, and a faith that endured beyond hardship.

His heart found its home in the Church of God of the Union Assembly in West Rome, where he was not just a member but a man who understood that faith is not simply a creed but a calling to love, to serve, and to trust in God.

In this world, Jerry walked alongside his beloved wife, Tammy Threadgill Barnes, whose devotion and companionship were his greatest earthly blessing. He also took joy in the lives of his stepsons, James Paul Watson (Nicole), William Ryan Watson, and Christopher Jacob Watson, who each carry forward a part of his legacy in their own journey through life.

Though the breath of mortality has now stilled him, Jerry’s story is not yet finished. The love he gave, the faith he lived, and the quiet steadfastness of his presence remain like footprints in the sands of those who knew him. Death is but a doorway, and beyond it lies the greater country, the truer home, where toil ceases and joy is made full.

The family has entrusted Good Shepherd Funeral Home with his final arrangements. Service details will be shared in due time, when loved ones may gather to honor a life well lived and a man well loved.
