Jerry C. Oakes

Jerry C. Oakes left her earthly home and transitioned to heaven on April 17th at 81 years old; born on November 24, 1941, in Rome, GA. to the late A.J. Cape and Dolla Estell McMichen.

Jerry was a devoted and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She had a heart of gold and spent many years volunteering, helping people at HiCare. Jerry was a talented pianist and performed at East Rome Church of God and Bible Baptist Church for many years. She enjoyed socializing and singing with friends at GA Mountain Music Club.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband William Franklin Oakes Jr., father, A.J. Cape and mother Dolla Estell McMichen and brother Louie Allen Crowe.

She is survived by her sister Emily Faye Cape-Ryther, daughter Janie Lynn Hodge, son Nathan DeJuan (Jo Anna) Oakes, her grandchildren, Jennifer (Robert) Whatley, Molly Oakes, Maggie Oakes, great grandchildren Caleb, Zoe and Eden Whatley.

Visitation will be held at Good Shepherd Funeral Home on Friday April 21 from 11:00AM – 1:00PM. The funeral service will be held at 1:00PM following Interment at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Dr. Billy Raburn will be officiating.

Pallbearers include Jeff Collins, Danny Oakes, Jason Oakes, Jamie Oakes, Jody and Joel Collins.
