In Loving Memory of John Albert Dixon
August 5, 1952 – September 30, 2025
John Albert Dixon of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the age of seventy-three. He was born in Tifton, Georgia, on August 5, 1952, to J. W. and Marie Dixon, whose love and lessons shaped the steady, kind, and unpretentious man he became.
John grew up beneath the Georgia sun, in fields where work was honest and laughter carried on the wind. From a young age, he understood the quiet satisfaction of fixing what was broken and the deeper joy of helping others along the way. Those who knew him remember not only his hands that were always busy with tools, wires, or engines, but his heart, which seemed to find a home in every soul he met.
He served his country with pride as a member of the United States Air Force, beginning in 1972, and later gave of himself again as a Gordon County volunteer firefighter. His life was not one of idle ease but of steady labor and service; whether mending a motor, fishing by still water, or lending a strong back to a neighbor in need.
To his family, he was more than a father or grandfatherhe was the sure hand that steadied, the gentle voice that encouraged, and the unspoken strength that made life feel secure. John is survived by his son, John Dixon; daughters, MaryBeth Dixon, Julia Dixon, Ashley Lindsay, and Brandy West; his sons-in-law, David Lindsay and Lee Callaway; and his grandchildren, Braden Callaway, Madison Callaway, Seth Kirby, Joshua Spires, Maesie Spires, Adelia Spires, Katelynn Lindsay, David Lindsay, Alanah Braden, Briannah Braden, and Ashton Lindsay. His great-grandson, Jaxton Lindsay, will grow up hearing stories of the man who could fix anything and loved everyone. John is also survived by his brother, Wayne Dixon, and his sisters, Brenda Kelley, Gail Dixon, Carol Gilbert, and Jeannette Stansell.
In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by his brother Eddie Dixon, and his sister Nancy Dixon.
John’s life was a patchwork of simple joys, with days spent outdoors, evenings filled with conversation, and moments stitched together by kindness. He was a “jack of all trades,” yes, but also a master of generosity, known to stop what he was doing to lend a hand or share a laugh. He will be remembered for his open heart, his easy smile, and his deep love for people, which was as constant as the southern sky.
The family is navigating their grief and will announce service dates and times once arrangements are finalized.
Good Shepherd Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
