We are saddened to announce the passing of Johnny Melton Smith, a revered member of the Plainville, Georgia community, who left us peacefully on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at the age of 85. Born in Plainville on February 10, 1938, to Fred B. Smith and Irene Smith, Johnny’s life was a testament to faith, hard work, and familial love.
Johnny was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Irene Smith; his brothers, Fred B. Smith, Jr. and Billy N. Smith; his niece Lynn Bricefield and his nephew Timothy Smith. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his daughter, Lisa D. Jacks; his grandchildren, Derrick L. Goswick and Nickki Woody Kemsey; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Billy Sue Williams, Wendy Bramblett, Genice Blaylock, Nancy Baker, William Smith, Glenda Smith and Sandy Smith.
Known for his unwavering faith, Johnny served as a lay minister, sharing his love for the Lord and His Word with unbounded passion. His skilled hands were not just limited to his spiritual work; he was also a talented painter and pulp wooder before his retirement. A faithful and long-standing member of Plainville Church of God of Prophecy, Johnny’s spiritual commitment was a beacon of light in his community.
Apart from his spiritual endeavors, Johnny was an avid fan of the University of Georgia football team. His enthusiasm for the Georgia Bulldogs was unmatched, yet this passion was eclipsed only by his profound love for the Lord and his family. His children and grandchildren were the center of his universe, and his dedication to them was unwavering.
The celebration of Johnny's life will be held at Plainville Church Of God of Prophecy, located at 3348 River Bend Road Southwest, Plainville, Georgia 30733, on Thursday, December 27, 2023. Friends and family are invited to join in remembrance at the visitation service from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Jerry Gaddis.
