In Loving Memory of Joseph ( Nelson) McMichael
May 11, 1951 – June 29, 2024
Joseph (Nelson) McMichael, aged 73, of Rome, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024. Born on May 11, 1951, in Newnan, Georgia. Nelson was the cherished son of the late Russell M. McMichael, Sr., and the late Mary Mallory Butler McMichael.
He is survived by his sons, Patrick McMichael and Kelly McMichael (Taylor McMichael), his daughter, Caryn Adams (Brandon Adams), and his grandchildren, Jacey Blanton, Aubrey Blanton, and Isabella McMichael. He is also survived by his brother, Russell McMichael, and sisters, Phyllis Rossey, Faye Kirksey, Sandra Reonas, and Teresa Littlejohn. He also leaves behind the Buffington family with whom he loved as his own.
Nelson was a pipefitter/welder by trade with the Local 72 Union until retirement. He loved music, playing guitar and singing with and for his friends and family. He was a member of several bands during his lifetime and enjoyed being on stage. He had a great sense of humor and knew how to make people laugh and smile.
Services to honor Nelson’s life will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024, at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home chapel. Visitation for family and friends will be 11:00 until 1:00 P.M. A graveside service to celebrate his life will be at 2:00 P.M. at Mountain Springs Community Cemetery in Cave Spring, GA.
Nelson will be escorted to his final resting place by pallbearers Kelly McMichael, Patrick McMichael, Bryan Buffington, Scott Buffington, Eddie Young, Robby Ramey, Greg Murdock, Matt Brown and Ken Massey.
Nelson’s memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends. His legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering support will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
