Kathryn Lyons Obituary

In loving memory of

Kathryn Ann Lee Lyons

August 22, 1947 – December 16, 2024

In the stillness of December’s twilight, Kathryn Ann Lee Lyons, aged 77, departed this earthly life to embrace her eternal home on Monday, December 16, 2024. Born on a sunlit August morning in 1947 to John Frank and Doris Lee, Kathryn graced this world with her strength, creativity, and boundless love. Raised amidst the rolling hills of Rome, Georgia, her journey became a tapestry of resilience and devotion, stitched together by the threads of faith, family, and artistry.

Preceding Kathryn in her heavenly ascent are her cherished parents and the love of her life, her husband, Rick Lyons. Their reunion in the beyond is a reminder of love’s enduring power.

Kathryn’s legacy flourishes in the hearts of those she leaves behind: her son, Keith Turner (Debbie); her daughter, Tiffany Kennedy (Jimmy); and her stepson, Daniel Scarborough (Amanda). Her grandchildren—Cory Turner (Katie), Jasmine Kennedy, Cadence Kennedy, and Alex Turner with his fiancée, Arielle Watts—carry forward her warmth and wisdom. Also, her loving great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and William Turner, whom she loved deeply. She is also survived by her brother, Rusty Lee; her sisters, Shirley Hensley, Linda Howerton (Eddie), and Patsy Lee, whose shared memories of Kathryn form a chorus of cherished moments.

Kathryn’s life was a quilt, intricately and lovingly pieced together, each square telling a story of passion and purpose. A true “quilting queen,” her deft hands transformed fabric into heirlooms of comfort and beauty. Whether at home or on her beloved quilting trips, Kathryn’s needle and thread wove not only patterns but connections among friends and kindred spirits.

A devoted grandmother, Kathryn found her greatest joy in the laughter and adventures shared with her grandchildren. She delighted in their sports games, their youthful energy, and their annual tradition of carving pumpkins, a pastime thoroughly enjoyed by all and which highlighted her ability to infuse ordinary moments with extraordinary love.

A woman of quiet faith, Kathryn was a steadfast member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where her spirit found refuge and renewal. She also devoted decades of loyal service to Windstream Communications, embodying diligence and integrity in her professional life.

Her adventurous soul carried her far beyond Georgia’s borders, finding delight in the rugged beauty of Yellowstone Park, the serene coastlines of Maine, the charm of Canada, and the majesty of Oregon. These travels were complemented by her penchant for shopping, where she sought treasures that reflected her vibrant personality.

Kathryn’s life will be celebrated on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the chapel of Good Shepherd Funeral Home, located at 2750 Shorter Avenue, Rome, Georgia 30165. Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation at 6:00 PM, with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 PM, led by Pastor John Blair.
