Leonardo Cruz-Cornejo, de Rome, Georgia, falleció el lunes 30 de marzo de 2026. Tenía cuarenta y ocho años. Nació el 26 de noviembre de 1977, hijo de Casilda Cornejo y del difunto Alfredo Cruz, en Michoacán, México, donde la tierra es cálida y el viento lleva las voces de quienes nos precedieron. Era un hombre cuya risa perdura mucho tiempo después de su partida. Aunque su padre ya se había ido antes, algo de él permanecía en Leonardo, en su forma de estar de pie y en su manera de ser.

Leonardo hizo de Rome, Georgia, su hogar, pero llevaba a Michoacán consigo. Se notaba en su música, en el ritmo de su voz, en la forma en que reunía a la gente a su alrededor como si la distancia no tuviera poder sobre el amor.

Deja atrás a su esposa, Maribel Reyes, quien conocía el sonido de su alegría mejor que nadie; a sus hijos, Jason Cruz-Reyes y Leo Cruz-Reyes, quienes aprendieron de él lo que significaba estar presente, una y otra vez; y a su hija, Evelyne Cruz-Reyes, por quien sentía un orgullo silencioso que no necesitaba palabras. También deja a su madre, Casilda Cornejo, quien le dio la vida; a su hermano, Tomás Cruz; a sus hermanas, Andrea Cruz, Edith Cruz, Leticia Cruz y Carmela Cruz; y a más de treinta sobrinas y sobrinos que lo recordarán no en silencio, sino en historias que perpetúan su voz.

Era un hombre que no se perdía nada. Ni los juegos de sus hijos, ni los pequeños momentos que otros podrían pasar por alto. Se situaba al margen, entre la multitud, en esos espacios cotidianos donde el amor se demuestra. Y se quedaba hasta el final de cada cosa, como si marcharse demasiado pronto significara perder algo que nunca podría reemplazarse.

Le encantaba el fútbol, y los nombres de Real Madrid y América nunca estaban lejos de él. Amaba la música con la misma intensidad. Tocaba, cantaba, unía su voz a la de otros en una banda, como si entendiera que algunas cosas están destinadas a vivirse en compañía.

Y se reía. A menudo. Ese tipo de risa que hacía que una habitación se sintiera llena, incluso antes de que lo estuviera. Contaba chistes no para que se le escuchara, sino para que los demás se sintieran más ligeros. Dondequiera que estuviera, el ambiente cambiaba. La gente se acercaba. El momento se convertía en algo digno de recordar.

Ahora hay un silencio donde antes estaba él. Pero no está vacío. Conserva su forma y los ecos de la música, el recuerdo de los juegos bajo su atenta mirada y la calidez de un hombre que se entregó por completo a quienes amaba.

Los servicios para honrar la vida de amor y risas de Leonardo se celebrarán en la funeraria Good Shepherd. El velatorio tendrá lugar el jueves 2 de abril de 2026, de 1:00 a 9:00PM. El funeral se celebrará el viernes 3, de abril de 2026, a las 1:00PM

Los que llevarán a Leonardo a su última morada en Oaknoll Memorial Gardens serán José Luís Reyes Cruz, Chester Reyes Cruz, Jason Cruz Reyes, Eric Palmerin Cruz, Alfredo Palmerin Cruz, y Federico Palmerin Cruz.

Aunque Leonardo ha pasado a la eternidad, nunca desaparecerá por completo de los corazones que amó y apreció, ni de los corazones que lo amaron y apreciaron a él. 

La funeraria Good Shepherd tiene el honor de que se le haya confiado la organización de los servicios.

Leonardo Cruz-Cornejo of Rome, Georgia, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026. He was forty-eight years old. Born on November 26, 1977, in Michoacán, Mexico, he was the beloved son of Casilda Cornejo and the late Alfredo Cruz, in a place where the earth is warm and the wind carries the voices of those who came before us. He was a man whose laughter lingered long after he left the room. Though his father had gone before him, something of him remained in Leonardo—in the way he stood and in the way he carried himself.

Leonardo made Rome, Georgia his home, yet he always carried Michoacán with him. It could be heard in his music, in the rhythm of his voice, and in the way he brought people together as if distance had no power over love.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Maribel Reyes, who knew the sound of his joy better than anyone; his sons, Jason Cruz-Reyes and Leo Cruz-Reyes, who learned from him what it meant to show up time and time again; and his daughter, Evelyne Cruz-Reyes, for whom he held a quiet pride that needed no words. He is also survived by his mother, Casilda Cornejo; his brother, Tomás Cruz; his sisters, Andrea Cruz, Edith Cruz, Leticia Cruz, and Carmela Cruz; and more than thirty nieces and nephews who will remember him not in silence, but in stories that keep his voice alive.

Leonardo was a man who never missed a thing—not his children’s games, nor the small moments others might overlook. He stood on the sidelines, among the crowd, in those everyday spaces where love quietly reveals itself. And he stayed until the very end of everything, as if leaving too soon meant missing something that could never be replaced.

He loved soccer, and the names Real Madrid and América were never far from his heart. He loved music with the same passion. He played, he sang, and joined his voice with others in a band, as if he understood that some things are meant to be lived in the company of others.

And he laughed—often. The kind of laughter that made a room feel full even before it was. He told jokes not to be heard, but to make others feel lighter. Wherever he was, the atmosphere changed. People gathered closer. The moment became something worth remembering.

Now there is a silence where he once stood. But it is not empty. It still carries his shape, the echoes of music, the memory of games beneath his watchful eye, and the warmth of a man who gave himself fully to those he loved.

Services to honor Leonardo’s life of love and laughter will be held at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 1:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026, at 1:00 PM.

Those serving as pallbearers and carrying Leonardo to his final resting place at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens will be José Luís Reyes Cruz, Chester Reyes Cruz, Jason Cruz Reyes, Eric Palmerin Cruz, Alfredo Palmerin Cruz, and Federico Palmerin Cruz.

Though Leonardo has entered eternity, he will never fully fade from the hearts he loved and cherished, nor from the hearts of those who loved and cherished him.
