In Loving Memory of
Linda Faye Robinson Watters
May 19, 1946 – February 9, 2026
When a gracious soul completes her earthly pilgrimage, heaven itself seems enriched by her arrival. So it is with Linda Faye Robinson Watters, of Rome, Georgia, who departed this life on Monday, February 9, 2026, at the age of seventy-nine. Born on May 19, 1946, in Rome, Georgia, to the late Hubert A. and Lura B. Robinson, Linda’s life was rooted in the red clay of her hometown and flourished there in steadfast love and quiet strength.
She now enters eternity welcomed by those who journeyed before her: her beloved husband, Donald Eugene Watters; her son, Donald Jerome Watters; her brother, Lamar Robinson; her sisters, Pat Beard and Yvonne Garrett and son-in-law Herbert Arthur 'Bert' Hitchcock. Their reunion is one of gentle consolation, a restoration of bonds that neither time nor death could sever.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted son, Hubert Eugene Watters (Kim); her daughters, Lura Gay Thompson, Jessie Leigh Hitchcock, and Georgia Ann Culberson (Jackie); and her daughter-in-law, Maydene Taylor. Her legacy extends through her grandchildren, Bert and Gracie Hitchcock, Emily and Evan Purdy, Kasey Miller (Colten), Piper Thompson, Reilly Grogan (Bradley), Matt Williams (Amanda), and Matthew Mathison (Heaven); and further still through her great-grandchildren, Mason, Adalyn, Marleigh, Carter, and Denver. She is also survived by her sister, Carlene Penney, whose shared memories span the length of a lifetime.
Linda’s life was a testament to faithful affection. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She bore these titles not merely in name, but in deed. To be called “Mama” or “Maw” was her delight, for in those simple syllables she heard the music of belonging. Her kitchen was a sanctuary of warmth, where meals were prepared not only to nourish the body, but to comfort the soul. She loved cooking, and she loved gathering around the table to eat, laugh, and listen.
Her hands, skilled in sewing, stitched more than fabric; they mended what was torn and fashioned beauty from humble cloth. She found quiet pleasure in reading, discovering new worlds in printed pages, and she delighted in travel and shopping, savoring both the adventure of new places and the simple joy of selecting something lovely.
Yet perhaps her most enduring labor was her advocacy for foster children and foster parents. Through her work with Georgia HOPE and the Georgia Department of Family and Children’s Services, Linda stood as a champion for the vulnerable. She believed that every child deserved safety, dignity, and a place to call home. If ever someone found themselves in need of counsel, of encouragement, of practical help, all they had to do was call Linda. She answered not reluctantly, but readily, with a heart inclined toward mercy.
Those who knew her will remember her strength, her steadfast devotion, and her generous spirit. Her life, though now complete, continues to bear fruit in the character of her children and the love that circles outward through generations.
Services to celebrate Linda’s life will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026, at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM. Linda will be interred at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Escorting her to her final resting place as pallbearers will be Charles Shaw, Vic Shaw, Wayne Penney, Steve Penney, Joey Waits and Bobby Garrett.
Good Shepherd Funeral Home is honored to have been entrusted with the arrangements.
