Lois Potts Desgrosiellier, age 93, peacefully entered her rest on May 22, 2026, leaving behind the many memories she created throughout a beautiful life devoted to others. She now rests in the Lord, and her family holds firmly to the blessed hope of being reunited with her at the resurrection when Jesus returns.
Born on February 2, 1933, in Rome, Georgia, Lois was the beloved daughter of the late George Potts Sr. and Ludie Taylor Potts. She was a woman whose life was defined by kindness, faith, compassion, and the quiet strength that held her family together through generations.
Lois was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, caring sister, and loyal friend. Her home was always a place of warmth, comfort, laughter, and love. She had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome, whether through a warm conversation, a caring heart, or one of the wonderful meals she lovingly prepared for family and friends. Some of the most treasured memories shared by those who loved her were gathered around her table, where no one ever left hungry and everyone felt at home.
Her faith was the foundation of her life. A faithful member of Calhoun Ave. Baptist Church, Lois lived out her beliefs each day through quiet acts of love, kindness, and service to others. In her younger years, she served in caregiving and nanny roles for families connected to her past church communities, where she lovingly helped care for and nurture children. She also found deep comfort and joy in gospel music, especially The Gaither Homecoming series, The Inspirations, and the timeless hymns of the Christian faith that she held close to her heart.
Lois was preceded in death by her beloved first husband, Roy Willerson, and her second husband, Gerard Desgrosiellier. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers George Potts Jr. and John Daniel Potts, and her sisters Ruthie Hardin and Judy Ann Little.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Betty McBurnett, and son-in-law Tommy McBurnett; her granddaughter, LaShay McBurnett O’Connor, and husband Corey O’Connor; her treasured great-grandchildren, Laina Rose McBurnett and Lilibeth Grace O’Connor; her siblings, Alfred Potts, Alice Osborn and husband James, and Charlotte Woods; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were blessed by her love.
A celebration of Lois’s life will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel in Rome, Georgia. Visitation will take place from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM, with funeral services beginning at 2:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Paul Samuel. Burial will follow at East View Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Timmy Osborn, Jimbo Osborn, Dawson Littlejohn, Chris Layne, Kirklyn Layne and Doug Hardin Jr. Special music honoring Lois’s love for gospel hymns will be performed by Kyra Cabrera and Omin Chandler.
Though her family grieves her passing, they find peace in knowing Lois’s life was a beautiful example of faith, love, and devotion. Her gentle spirit, caring heart, and unwavering love for her family will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Good Shepherd Funeral Home is honored to have been entrusted with the arrangements.
