Lucille Childers Obituary

Mrs. Lucille Buffington Childers, age 90, of Rome, passed away February 19, 2016 at her residence, she will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Mrs. Childers was born June 19, 1925, in Floyd County a daughter of the late Samuel Dewitt Buffington, and Mary Gladys Manning Buffington. She was married to Bobby Lee Childers, in 1947 they had three children Tommy, Freddy and Patsy. She was a member of Community Chapel Baptist Church which she attended faithfully. She grew up in Rome, Ga. went to school at Possum Trot at Berry. Mrs. Childers was a hard worker and took pride in caring for her family, she began caring for her siblings at a very young age, when her mother passed away. She was a great cook and seamstress, she enjoyed working in a garden and canning and preparing vegetables. Mrs. Childers enjoyed plants and flowers of all kinds and truly had a green thumb, a kinder heart could never be found. Mrs. Childers took to helping other prepare meals and sewed clothes for others, she drew and cut her own patterns, all whom knew her knew that she always put other before herself. She was preceded in death by her husband Bobby Childers who passed away at the age of on June he was buried on their anniversary and Patsy's birthday, she was their 5th anniversary present, she was also preceded in death by her first grandchild, Stacy Lynette Middleton still born daughter of Patsy and Junior Middleton, on Feb. 20, 1971 she would have been 45 the day after Mrs. Childers death, and by her parents, brothers, Samuel Dewey Buffington, Arnold Buffington, and Marvin Buffington, brother in law James Ayer.

Survivors include her children, Tommy (Pam) Childers, Camden, SC; Fred (Susan) Childers, Cave Spring; Patsy (Junior) Middleton, Rome; grandchildren, Ginger (Bryan) Childers Chestnut, Camden, SC; Wade (Alison) Childers, Rome; Melanie (Charles) Childers Danielson, Charleston, SC; Amanda (Billy) Childers Smith, Knoxville, TN; Mark Middleton, Rome; sisters, Clara Ayer, Rome; brother, Alfred (Jeannie) Buffington, Rome; great grandchildren, Brynna Chestnut, Courtney Chestnut, Ali Middleton, Austin Middleton, Haley Middleton, Zachary Davidson, Cora Davidson, Alex Childers. Mrs. Childers had a very special friend, Mr. D.L. Shields, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 P.M. Monday February 22, 2016 at Parnick Jennings, Sr.'s Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Max Tucker, officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 P.M. until the hour of the service on Monday, at Parnick Jennings, Sr.'s Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, Ga. 30165.

Pallbearers include the following gentlemen and are asked to meet at the funeral home by 3:00 P.M. on Monday, Billy McCord, Billy Smith, Wade Childers, Richard Ayer, Gary Ayer, Jake Ayer, and Hunter Ayer.
