Marie Vaughn Obituary

In Loving Memory of Marie “Maw-Maw” Sosebee Vaughn

Marie “Maw-Maw” Sosebee Vaughn of Rome, Georgia, slipped quietly from this life into her Savior’s embrace on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the age of eighty-four. Born and raised in Rome to the late Frank and Inez Sosebee, Marie came of age beneath the sound of the railroad’s whistle and the glow of front porch lights, where laughter and conversation lingered long after the sun went down.

In addition to her parents,  was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Bobby Vaughn, and her beloved son, Ray Vaughn; two men whose memory she held close, tender, and unshakable, through every season of her life. Also by her Sister , Daine Roberson and three grandchildren.

She leaves behind her sons, Travis Vaughn, Todd Vaughn, and Timmy Vaughn (Teresa); her daughters, Cathy Dominy (Tom) and Beth Rose; and her sister, Elizabeth Justice, a long with 27 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, and 13 great- great grandchildren several nieces and nephews also survive. Each of them carries forward the warmth of her smile, the comfort of her stories, and the unwavering love that made her the heart of their family.

To those who knew her, Marie was more than a mother or neighbor; she was “Maw-Maw,” the cherished neighborhood grandmother. She wore that name like a badge of honor, and her home was a haven where everyone belonged. There was always a cold Coca-Cola waiting on the counter, the smell of something good on the stove, and a welcome as generous as her heart. She could turn a simple Bingo night into an occasion for joy, and when the Mountains called her name, she answered with delight, breathing in the peace that seemed to settle her soul.

Marie remembered every birthday, every milestone, every detail that made others feel seen. Her memory was sharp, her stories vivid, and her laughter full and bright. She spoke often of growing up in Rome, of childhood days spent near the tracks where dreams and trains passed side by side, and of the deep love that bound her family together through every hardship and joy.

When her mother grew too ill to care for the younger children, Marie stepped into her place with a grace far beyond her years. It was then that her life began to shine with quiet heroism: the kind born of duty, tenderness, and the simple, steadfast practice of love.

For more than twenty years, she worshiped faithfully at Way of the Cross Church, where her voice rose in prayer and praise that seemed to touch the heavens. Her dear friend Martha Kilgore walked beside her through life’s turning seasons, and in later years, even her Alexa Ball became a quiet companion, faithfully listening as Marie shared stories, laughter, and wonder.

Marie’s life was a living sermon; one of faith, devotion, and a love that reached beyond her lifetime. She gave freely, forgave easily, and lived joyfully, leaving behind a legacy of kindness that will not fade.
