Mary Rutledge Obituary

In Loving Memory of Mary Ruth Pierce Rutledge
March 9, 1938 – February 25, 2024

On Sunday, February 25, 2024, Mary Ruth Pierce Rutledge, a cherished resident of Rome, Georgia, passed away. Born on March 9, 1938, in Floyd County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late George Washington Pierce and Minnie Lee Sprouse Pierce.

Mary's legacy is carried on by her daughter, Robin Melissa Jarrett (Greg), and her beloved grandchildren, Brittany Jarrett, Bethany Anderson (Kes), Brianna Rogers (Eddie), and Kaylee Jarrett. Her profound love and devotion to her family were evident in every facet of her life, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Russell F. Pierce, and her sisters, Cleo Pierce Harris, Polly Pierce Comer, and Lucille Pierce Alexander. A devout member of the Baptist faith, Mary attended worship whenever she could.

Though Mary’s career at Atlanta Gas was fulfilling, she did not scorn retirement. A passionate gardener, Mary found solace and joy in the rhythms of nature. Her garden was her sanctuary, where she cultivated not only flowers and vegetables but also a sense of peace and accomplishment. Sewing and quilting were more than hobbies for Mary; they were expressions of her creativity and her way of weaving the fabric of her family history into tangible keepsakes. Her handmade projects, often stitched with love and care, are cherished heirlooms that carry the warmth of her love.

Mary's memory will forever resonate not only in her crafts and garden but also in the lives of all her family and friends. Her life will be honored at a graveside ceremony to be held at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens at 2:00 PM, on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Pastor Alfred Little will officiate.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Parnick Jennings Good Shepherd Funeral Home.
