Melanie Towe Obituary

In Loving Memory of Melanie Ann Elwell Towe
December 7, 1960 – September 11, 2024

On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, Mrs. Melanie Ann Elwell Towe of Rome, Georgia, peacefully entered eternal rest at the age of sixty-three. Born on December 7, 1960, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Hervey T. Elwell and Barbara Marie Smith Elwell, Melanie’s journey through life was marked by boundless love, faith, and service to others.

Melanie leaves behind a legacy of devotion to her family, her faith, and her community. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of thirty-six years, James Gary Towe, who was the steadfast partner in her life’s adventures. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family. Their bond was one of true partnership, filled with laughter, joy, and shared dreams.

Melanie’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was the cherished mother of daughters, Amanda Tapp (Jesse), Tina Wilson, Brittney Sherbert (Kaylup), Misttie Elcombe (Jeremy), Rhonda Reyes (Joe), and Sandy Johns (Gary); and the proud mother of sons,  Rodney Towe, Gary Towe (Tammy), and Jeff Towe (Rebecca). Her love extended even further to her grandchildren—Bronson Tapp, McKenzie Tapp, JC Wilson, Alana Wilson, Willow Wilson, John Wilson, Bentley Carlile, Luke Carlile, Noah Carlile, Lexi Elcombe, Blakley Elcombe, Joel Escutia, Nina Oliva, Nicole Escutia, Olivia Reyes, Derek Towe, Meghan Keith, Katie Towe, Matt Towe, Halie Morgan, Cheyenne Becker, Anna Grace Towe, Dixie Towe, JD Towe, and Ivy Towe. Plus 13 great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her beloved brother, Brian Keith Elwell, whose memory she held close to her heart.

A pillar of strength and grace, Melanie’s faith was at the center of her life. She was an active member of Little Creek Baptist Church, where she led the children's ministry with passion and dedication. Her kind spirit and genuine love for others touched the hearts of everyone who knew her, and she found great joy in guiding young hearts to know the Lord.

Melanie had a remarkable ability to make every moment special. Whether she was teaching children the love of Christ, planning and organizing events, or preparing a delicious meal for loved ones, her warmth and generosity were felt by all. She was famous for her cooking and baking, often filling her home with the comforting scents of her creations, which became beloved traditions for family and friends alike.

A woman of many talents, Melanie enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She adored camping in the beauty of Cherokee, North Carolina, and found joy in attending car shows with her family, where they made countless cherished memories. Her home was always a place of welcome, where the door was open to all, and no one ever left without feeling loved and cared for.

Melanie’s love for her children and grandchildren was the heartbeat of her life. She never missed a school event, a special occasion, or a chance to support and uplift her family. Her presence was a constant source of encouragement, and she was always there with a listening ear, a warm hug, or a word of wisdom. Melanie’s life was a living testament to the love and joy that comes from being surrounded by family, and her children and grandchildren will forever carry the light of her love in their hearts.

Her relationship with her beloved husband, James was one of deep admiration and respect. For thirty-six years, they shared an unwavering love that was evident to all who knew them. Their marriage was a source of strength, and they walked through life side by side, hand in hand. Melanie’s devotion to James was unmatched, and their bond was a shining example of a life lived in love.

Melanie’s incredible life will be honored and celebrated during a visitation service on Monday, September 16, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home chapel. The funeral service will follow on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, officiated by Reverend Franklin Towe, Reverend Adrian Langston, and Reverend Bill Towe. Pallbearers—Bronson Tapp, Rodney Towe, Gary Towe, Joe Reyes, Matt Towe, Jeff Towe, Joel Escutia, and Derek Towe—will lovingly escort her to her final resting place at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Melanie’s spirit will live on through the love she gave, the faith she shared, and the countless lives she touched. She was a woman of strong character, immense kindness, and unshakable faith, whose memory will forever be a blessing to all who knew her.
