Nancy Dodd Obituary

In Loving Memory of Nancy Virginia Harless Dodd
December 18, 1940 – July 17, 2025

With hearts bowed in both sorrow and gratitude, we mark the earthly departure of Mrs. Nancy Virginia Harless Dodd, who passed from this life on Thursday, July 17, 2025, in Rome, Georgia. She was eighty-four years old. Born on December 18, 1940, in Rome, she was the cherished daughter of the late Jim and Polly Harless
.
Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Dodd, Jr., a man with whom she shared deep and enduring companionship, as well as by her dear sister, Louise Thomas, whose memory remained close to her heart.

She is survived by her two devoted sons: Patrick Harless Dodd and Mark Brandon Dodd (Tonia). She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren,
Christopher Dodd (W. Leigh Robinson and step-daughter Liz Suffill) and DJ Morgan (W. Carley Morgan), each of whom carried her pride and joy within their hearts. Her influence will echo in their lives as surely as the moon reflects the light of the sun.

Also survived by her beloved nieces and their families: Kathy Edwards (H. Wesley Edwards), Carole Buffington ( H. Troy Buffington) Sheryl Bell (H. David Bell), and Joetta Bolton (H. Johnny Bolton).

Nancy’s days upon this earth were marked by curiosity, courage, and joyful pursuit. A spirited entrepreneur, she was the owner and operator of Hero’s World Comic Store, a haven for dreamers, adventurers, and seekers of wonder. Through the colorful pages of comics and tales of heroes, she shared her love of imagination and storytelling with all who entered.

In her professional life, she served faithfully within the Rome City School system, investing in young minds and nurturing the promise of generations to come. Upon retirement, she devoted herself to the things that brought her delight: she danced with lightness in her step and music in her soul; she read voraciously, gathering words like flowers in a garden; she found solace at the lake, where water whispered its sacred calm. She enjoyed the thrill of the casino, not as mere pastime, but as a celebration of chance and joy.

Yet above all, Nancy cherished the company of her family. Their laughter, their stories, their simple nearness; these were her truest riches.
Services to honor Nancy’s life will be held at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home chapel on Thursday, July 24, 2025. Visitation begins at 5:00 PM, with the funeral service to follow at 6:00 PM. Matt Smith will officiate the ceremony. She will be laid to rest at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens, carried in memory and honor by those she loved: Steven Bell, Brian Bell, Chris Edwards, Scott Edwards, DJ Morgan, and Eric Buffington, who serve as honorary pallbearers.

And now, as she ascends beyond the veil, we hold her in remembrance, not only in sorrow, but in praise. For hers was a life marked by spirit, by love, and by light. May she rest in eternal peace, her soul alight with the joy she so freely gave.

Good Shepherd Funeral Home has been entrusted with the sacred care of these arrangements.
