Rachel Salmon Obituary

In Loving Memory of Rachel Denise Gilreath Salmon

February 14, 1975 – August 8, 2024

With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Rachel Denise Gilreath Salmon, age 49, of Rome, Georgia, who left this world on Monday, August 8, 2024. Born on Valentine’s Day in 1975 to the late Jack Wayne Gilreath and the late Sandra Karen Welch Gilreath, Rachel embodied the love and warmth associated with the day of her birth throughout her life.

Rachel was a devoted mother, a loving sister, and a cherished friend to many. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: her sons, Bryan Mazzo and Riley Salmon, and her daughter, Mandy Salmon. Her children were the center of her world, and she took immense pride in being their mother. Rachel's love for them was boundless, and she dedicated her life to ensuring they were surrounded by warmth, kindness, and support. Her nurturing spirit extended to her sister, Misty Gilreath and her half siblings, Amanda and Anthony Moon and Nicole Wheat with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. She was also deeply close to her cousin, Patches Rich, whom she considered a sister in every way that mattered. Rachel also leaves a legacy of love for her uncles, Steve Welch and David Welch, and a myriad of nieces and nephews who will forever cherish the memories they created with her.

Rachel’s love for her family was matched only by her love for God. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, providing her with strength, comfort, and purpose. She was a woman of deep conviction, and her relationship with God was evident in the way she treated others—with kindness, generosity, and an open heart.

Rachel’s capacity to love extended far beyond her immediate family. She was blessed with many friendships, as she had a unique gift for making everyone feel welcomed and valued. Rachel never met a stranger; her warm personality and infectious smile drew people to her, and she quickly turned acquaintances into lifelong friends. Whether she was sharing a laugh, lending a listening ear, or offering a helping hand, Rachel made an indelible impact on those around her. Her friends and family were the fortunate recipients of her unwavering loyalty and affection.

One of Rachel’s greatest joys was spending time with her family and friends, whether it was gathering for a meal, sharing stories, or simply enjoying each other’s company. She loved to create memories with those she loved, and these moments of togetherness were among her most treasured experiences. Her home was often filled with laughter, love, and the comforting presence of those who meant the most to her.

Rachel had a special affinity for the beach and the ocean. The rhythmic sound of the waves, the feel of the sand beneath her feet, and the vastness of the sea brought her a sense of peace and serenity. The beach was her sanctuary, a place where she could relax, reflect, and rejuvenate. Rachel’s love for the ocean was a reflection of her own personality—vast, deep, and full of life.

Rachel was loved by many, and her passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her

Though Rachel’s time on this earth has come to an end, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved her. Her legacy is one of love, kindness, and an unwavering devotion to her family and friends. She will be remembered not just for the life she lived, but for the love she gave, the joy she brought, and the lives she touched.

The family is in the process of finalizing the details for the services to celebrate Rachel’s life. Information regarding the dates and times will be shared in the near future.
