In Loving Memory
Ramona Sprayberry Phillips
October 25, 1963 – May 12, 2026
Ramona Sprayberry Phillips went to join our Lord and Savior on May 12, 2026, after an illness. Ramona was a Christian who followed both Baptist and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints doctrines. She was preceded to Our Heavenly Father by her parents, John Wesley Sprayberry, Mary Grant Hunter and stepdad, John Hunter, by brothers Johnny and Tommy Sprayberry Sr., Larry and Jimmy Hunter and sister Brenda Mc Lamb.
Surviving are husband, Ben Phillips, her children Tabitha Smith, Gary Smith Jr., Allen Smith, Quinn Phillips all of Rome, GA., Amyst and Collin Hayes of Chattanooga, TN., and son-in-heart, Connor and Hannah Morris of Rome, GA. Her grandchildren Cassandra Smith of Syracuse, NY., Kymssa Hayes of Chattanooga, TN., and Scarlett Treakle of Rome, GA. Also surviving are her brother Billy Sprayberry and Kim Sprayberry, Jeannie Childers, Marie Hall, Gail and Scott Collins, Darlene and David Dover Sr., Cathy Edwards, Jimmy Hunter, along with many nieces and nephews.
Ramona loved GOD, family, and the research of family history since being assigned it for homework in the sixth grade. It was, to her, like doing a form of detective work. She enjoyed family gatherings, listening to and telling family stories, and writing poetry and small stories. Family was her greatest personal blessing. She deeply respected law enforcement and the military, being briefly employed as a deputy of the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office in 2000 and 2016, which was a great honor to her. Military movies, the original television show “Star Trek,” and many police shows all helped shape her character. As did her love of being outside on spring and summer days, archaeology, history, and the color deep purple, these all defined her life. As a young girl, her brother-in-law nicknamed her “Lucy” after the “I Love Lucy” television show for being silly, and it remained with her throughout her life.
A Celebration of Life will be held with visitation Sunday, May 17, 2026 in the evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 18, 2026 at 3:00 PM at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint, followed by interment at Subligna Cemetery.
Pallbearers are: sons Gary Smith Jr., Allen Smith, Quinn Phillips, Connor Morris, Collin Hayes, and brother Billy Sprayberry.
Honorary pallbearers are: Rodney Cameron, Jamie Hall, Blake Hall, Larry Hall, John Sprayberry, and James Craig Jr.
“The path may be, at times, dark and troublesome,
but Faith will make the journey with you, and GOD
will reward your Faith.”
