In Loving Memory of Randall Roy Paynter
July 28, 1954 – March 16, 2025
In the sultry warmth of a Georgia summer, on July 28, 1954, Randall Roy Paynter, a soul destined to live with unmatched passion and spirited sincerity was born to the late Roy and Annie Mary Paynter. Seventy years later, on the quiet Sunday of March 16, 2025, he gently released his final breath, leaving a space no one else could fill, and memories rich enough to sustain those who cherished him.
Though his parents preceded him into the heavenly beyond, their spirit lived on in him, and Randall’s spirit burned bright as he possessed a warmth that drew others effortlessly into his orbit, as a flame draws the moth, irresistible and tender.
At Model High School, Randall was the famed twelfth man; standing ready, vigilant, proud. Though rarely the center of the spotlight, his unwavering presence became the quiet strength upon which many depended. And when the gridiron glowed beneath the Friday night lights, Randall’s heartbeat fiercely in rhythm with his beloved Model Blue Devils, a passion that held steady all his days.
Life, to Randall, was not lived quietly nor cautiously; rather, it was savored fully, fiercely, and with joyful abandon. He adored music, especially the rugged, heartfelt refrains of Credence Clearwater Revival, whose melodies he played until they formed the soundtrack of family gatherings and solitary musings alike. His bookshelf overflowed, reflecting a boundless curiosity and hunger for stories, knowledge, and wisdom. And yet, beyond the books and music, Randall’s truest joy was found in laughter. His was the kind of laughter that shakes the heart and resonates within the soul. To make others laugh was Randall’s gift. It was his daily blessing, and he shared it generously, believing that humor, like grace, could save a weary soul.
A man of steadfast determination, Randall built and ran his own lawn care business, meticulously shaping the earth, nurturing the land beneath the open Georgia skies. His diligence became a lesson, his labor an eloquent statement on dignity, commitment, and quiet courage. Retirement, when it came, offered him a slower rhythm, but he never lost the vigor of his spirit, nor the clarity of his beliefs. Randall loved Jesus with a fierce devotion, his faith both unwavering and personal. Likewise, he was unashamedly passionate about his support for Donald Trump. He held a conviction as outspoken and genuine as the man himself.
Randall leaves behind the love of his life, his beloved wife, Tammy Paynter, who shared his joys, endured his sorrows, and walked faithfully at his side. He is also survived by his devoted sons, Richard Colt Paynter, Shawn Paynter, and Patrick Auth; his treasured daughters, Christina Paynter, Jill Smith, Bethany Auth, Selina Law and Special daughter-in-law Alexander Paynter. His legacy echoes in the laughter and lives of his grandchildren, Randall Roy Paynter, Adeline Elizabeth Paynter, Steven Cox, Nicole Paynter, Zack Smith, Milo Smith, Shane Auth, Kayleigh Auth, Brayden Auth, Raylyn Law, Thomas Law, and Brylan Law. Randall also leaves behind his dear brother, Bobby Eugene Paynter, whose bond, rooted in shared memories, endured across the currents of life.
As those who loved Randall struggle to reconcile themselves with loss, they invite family and friends to gather in celebration of a life well-lived. Services are pending at this time and we will share when they are finalized. Comforting words and cherished remembrances will be spoken by Buddy David House. Following the service, Randall will rest in peace beneath the quiet beauty of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers carrying him tenderly on his final earthly journey will be Colt Paynter, Nicole Paynter, Tommy Fortenberry, Shawn Paynter, Steven Cox, Soscha Kirkpatrick, and Michael McAbee.
Good Shepherd Funeral Home is deeply honored to shepherd Randall Roy Paynter’s memory with grace, dignity, and profound respect while holding close to the vibrant life of a man whose legacy, intense and vivid as summer itself, will echo gently in our hearts forever.
