Obituary

Ray Evans Fricks Jr, 62, passed away after a strenuous battle with liver disease. He was born to the late Ray Evans Fricks, Sr., and Jane Walker Fricks on May 28, 1960. He is survived by his daughters Amanda Leclear, Brittany Cornett, and Lea Marie Lankford. Ray also leaves behind his grandchildren Asher Cornett, Everly Leclear, Colton Lankford, and Ella Leclear; along with his brother Brad Fricks, and aunt Kathy Walker (Larry) Cornett.

Ray was an artist who saw beauty and creativity all around him. He had a passion for building things. He built new houses and added on to existing houses. His creativity knew no bounds. He built furniture that was as functional as it was whimsical. He had an eye for taking something worthless and useless and making it into something priceless and cherished. No material was too undesirable or cumbersome for Ray. He could bring to life intricately detailed sculptures from simple paper-mâché. Ray didn’t just paint on canvas, he breathed new life into them. He had a kinship for all art, but his favorite by far was art created by the indigenous people of the Americas. Ray loved sports cars and motorcycles. He was drawn to the mechanical elegance and sleek function of vehicles that had the ability to transcend the speed limit with the greatest of ease. He relished any chance he got to ride his various motorcycles and lately his new sports car.

Ray’s emotional intelligence not only made him a naturally borne artist but allowed him to tap into his own emotions and empathize with others. He would always talk about how his mom raised him as a single mother, and despite having to fight through many struggles, she worked hard to ensure he had a great life. As a result of watching the toils of his mother, Ray worked tirelessly to make sure his children were well taken care of. He never let his sickness deter him from visiting with his daughters and spending time with his grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Phillip Lankford, Tommy Leclear, Victor Larkin and Mark Cornett.
