In Loving Memory of Richard Wayne McGarity (Phillips)
November 13, 1972 - June 30, 2024
Richard Wayne McGarity (Phillips), 51, of Shannon, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 13, 1972, he was the cherished son of Robert McGarity Jr. and Paulette R. Phillips and beloved stepson to William Phillips.
Richard leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold his memory dear. He is survived by his devoted mother, Paulette R. Phillips; his treasured son, Caleb McGarity; and his siblings, Robert McGarity, Joseph McGarity, Billy Phillips, Renee Davis, Teresa Scott, Lori Phillips, and Amberlee Phillips. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert McGarity, his stepfather, William Phillips; and his brother, Will McGarity.
Richard was a dedicated father, whose love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life. His deep bond with his mother showcased his affectionate nature, and he was often endearingly referred to as a "mama’s boy." Richard’s culinary skills were remarkable; he found joy and solace in the kitchen, creating meals that brought his family together. A homebody at heart, Richard found comfort in the familiar surroundings of home. He was also a talented artist and writer, with a knack for drawing and a passion for storytelling.
After graduating from Coosa High School in Rome, Georgia, Rich pursued higher education at Georgia Northwestern, where he majored in English and earned his bachelor’s degree. His love for writing led him to author a book and a screenplay, leaving a lasting legacy through his words.
In addition to his creative pursuits, Richard served as a reservist in the United States Army, demonstrating his commitment to his country and his community.
Richard’s family will celebrate his life during a visitation service at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home chapel on Sunday, July 7, 2024. The visitation will begin at 3:00 PM and conclude at 5:00 PM.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Parnick Jennings Good Shepherd Funeral Home. Richard’s memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
