In Loving Memory of
Richard Franklin Stansell
December 30, 1950 – February 8, 2026
Richard Franklin Stansell, of Cedar Bluff, Alabama previously of Lindale, Georgia, passed into eternity on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the age of seventy-five. His life was marked by conviction, courage, and a steadfast devotion to both faith and country.
Born on December 30, 1950, in Rome, Georgia, Richard was the beloved son of the late Rufus Franklin Stansell and Ola Mae Stansell. From an early age, he carried within him a sense of calling and responsibility that would shape the course of his life.
A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Richard served honorably with the First Marine Division from 1969 through 1975. Those years forged in him a discipline and loyalty that never left him. He carried the title of Marine not merely as a memory, but as an identity, living each day with the resolve and integrity that service demands.
In 1979, Richard answered a higher call when he received his call to preach. From that moment forward, he dedicated himself wholeheartedly to the work of ministry. A devoted member of the Church of God, he was not content to simply attend, but he labored, he prayed, he visited, he witnessed. Richard was a true evangelist at heart, passionate about sharing the Gospel and encouraging others to walk in faith. He spent much of his time in Bible study, always seeking a deeper understanding of God’s Word. His church was not just a place of worship; it was his mission field and his family.
Outside of ministry, Richard found joy in simple but meaningful blessings. He deeply loved his dogs, who were more than pets, they were family to him, faithful companions who brought comfort and happiness to his days.
Above all earthly accomplishments, Richard cherished his role as father and grandfather. He is lovingly remembered by his sons, James Stansell and Daniel Stansell; his daughter, Teresa Stansell; and his treasured grandchildren, Brett Stansell, Breanna Stansell, and Mason Stansell. In them, his legacy continues steadfast, faithful, and strong.
Services to celebrate Richard’s life of honor and service will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, with the funeral service following at 2:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Glyn Davis. Richard will be laid to rest at Floyd Memory Gardens. Escorting him to his final resting place will be pallbearers Brett Stansell, Mason Stansell, Benji Ross, Trey Paul, Camey Hannah, and Gerald LeCroy.
There is a particular beauty in a life that blends Marine discipline with evangelist fire. That combination shapes men who stand firm in storms and kneel humbly in prayer. Richard was such a man.
Good Shepherd Funeral Home is honored to have been entrusted with the arrangements.
