Obituary

Mr. Ricky William Cawthon, of Rome, Georgia passed away on November 19, 2022. He was born on September 17, 1959, in Honolulu, Hawaii to the late William and Margaret Cawthon. In addition to his parents, Ricky is also preceded in death by his brother, Thomas P Cawthon.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rita, his brother Helmut Cawthon, and his sisters, Evelyn J. Dickson, and Elizabeth F. Carey, his brothers-in-law, David Miller, Charles Terrey, Phil Goss, and Curtis Stoner. Ricky also leaves behind a host of beloved nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his best friend David Bick.

Having enjoyed cooking since he was very young, Ricky began his career working as a manager at Shoney’s and he stayed with that company for twenty years. Anyone who was blessed with the opportunity to enjoy his works of culinary art, came away feeling as though Ricky was the best chef they knew. Later in life, Ricky owned a construction and remodeling business, which he continued until his illness began to take its toll making it impossible to continue with his work.

Being a native Hawaiian, loving the outdoors was second nature to him, and he found solace and absolute enjoyment communing with nature. Ricky’s fishing and hunting skills were second to none, and his friends and family considered it a rare treat to be able to eat the game and fish that Ricky not only hunted, but also cooked to perfection.

Ricky was an incurable romantic, and he spent thirty-four years romancing Rita, love of his life. He will be tremendously missed by all who knew and loved him. Rita, will treasure every moment she had with Ricky, and she will forever cherish the little made-up poem he would say to her, “Roses are red, violets are blue, no one loves you more than I do.”

Though Ricky and Rita never had any children together, they did have several precious fur-babies, Tinnie, Florabelle and Scooter that were as loved by Ricky as if they had been human.
