In Loving Memory of Robert Earl Ayers
March 5, 1953 – April 18, 2024
Robert Earl Ayers, aged 70, of Rome, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024. Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, on March 5, 1953, to Ralph and Constance Ayers, Robert grew up to be a man deeply cherished by his family and friends.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Wilma Diane Ayers, and his sisters, Brenda Ayers Otting and Mary Ayers Felkel (Kinney). His life was also touched and shaped by the presence and subsequent loss of his parents, his brother Donald, his sister Sally, and several dear nieces and nephews.
Robert spent his youth in Rome and attended Darlington School, followed by Coosa High School. After high school, he pursued higher education at Georgia Southern University and served briefly in the United States Navy.
A lifelong sports devotee, Robert’s passion for Georgia Tech football was a defining characteristic. Living amidst a sea of University of Georgia fans in Northwest Georgia, his unwavering support for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets demonstrated not just his courage but also a delightful stubbornness.
Robert was not just a man of many talents and trades, but a man who touched the lives of many with his approachable nature and genuine interest in others. His career spanned several fields, but it was his natural people skills that truly set him apart, winning him many lifelong friends.
His memory will be cherished and celebrated by all who knew him. Robert’s family suggests that those who wish to honor his memory might consider a donation to Samaritan’s Purse International Relief, an organization he respected for their global humanitarian efforts.
Arrangements are entrusted to Parnick Jennings Good Shepherd Funeral Home.
