Robert Duncan Obituary

In Loving Memory of
Robert James Duncan
December 4, 1933 – February 28, 2025

On Friday, February 28, 2025, Robert James Duncan, a man of steadfast heart and enduring spirit, passed from the circles of this world into the light of eternity. He was ninety-one years of age, and his tale, rich with labor, laughter, and love, now rests upon the lips of those who remain to cherish his memory.

Born on December 4, 1933, Robert came forth into a world vast and ever-changing, the beloved son of the late William C. “Bill” Hall and Rosa Lee Hall Duncan. From the earliest days of his youth, he walked the winding paths of Georgia, shaping a life marked by courage, toil, and an unyielding love for the simple joys of existence.

Though time, ever the swiftest of travelers, carried many dear ones beyond the veil before him; his beloved wife, Sandra Dean Jones Duncan; his brothers, Johnny Duncan, AP Duncan, Clyde Duncan, Charles Duncan, and Jack Duncan; and his sister, Pauline Dunn. Robert held their memories close, carrying their laughter and wisdom within him as he journeyed onward.

His legacy remains steadfast in those who walk the roads after him: his son, Craig Duncan (Macie); his daughter, Karen Lambert (Johnny); his grandchildren, Heather Watkins (Todd Kaminer), Brittney Pogue (Joey), Nick Duncan, Katie Hinson (Kevin), and Abbi Duncan; his great-grandchildren, Preston Watkins III (Tessa), Taylor Pogue (Jeremy Osteen), Noah Pogue, Claire Pogue, Reid Hinson, Rhett Hinson, Parker Duncan, and Gracie Duncan; and his great-great-grandchildren, Adalynn Watkins and Ashlynn Watkins. Each carries a piece of his laughter, his strength, and the echoes of his song.

For Robert was a man of music, his voice rising in melodies that wove themselves into the hearts of those who heard them. A car enthusiast of great passion, he found beauty in the bones of old machines, restoring them with a craftsman’s hand and a dreamer’s soul. He served his country with honor in the United States Navy, and after long years of labor, he took his rest from the toils of General Electric, having left his mark upon the world of work.

In his later years, companionship and kindness found him in the presence of his special friend, Sue Ellen Liley, whose company brought warmth to the twilight of his days.

Now, the time has come for those who loved him to gather and bid him farewell. His life shall be honored on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, within the halls of Good Shepherd Funeral Home. The doors shall be open for those who wish to pay tribute at the hour of noon, and at the second hour past midday, the funeral service shall commence beneath the solemn gaze of the officiant, George Nix. As per his wishes, Robert shall be laid to rest at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens, where the earth will cradle him in its quiet embrace.

The virtuous keepers of Good Shepherd Funeral Home are entrusted with these arrangements, and those who mourn may take comfort in the knowledge that Robert’s tale is not ended but merely set upon another path, where, beyond the reach of time, he shall wait to greet those he loves once more.
