In Loving Memory of Robert M. Phipps
February 20, 1942 – December 25, 2025
Robert M. Phipps, of Rome, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 25, 2025. He was 83 years old. Born on February 20, 1942, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Robert was the son of the late Finney Oscar Phipps and Nancy Magnolia Walter Phipps. Throughout his life, Robert was known as a man of integrity who faced the trials and opportunities in his life with fierce determination.
On April 22, 1962, Robert married the love of his life, Gwendolyn, and together they shared more than six decades of marriage. Their home was one of devotion, laughter, and deep-rooted love. They raised three daughters; Joy, Hope, and Love, whose very names reflected the values Robert held close and lived out each day.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Gwendolyn Phipps; his daughters, Joy Lumpkin (Terry), Hope Tharp (Barry), and Love Daniels (Gary); his grandchildren, Justin Lumpkin (Kristen), Caitlin Tharp, Cole Bryan, and Charity Bryan; and his great-grandchildren, Kaleb Coleman, Elijah Lumpkin, and Luna Lumpkin, who brought him great pride and joy.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Faith Rogers; his nieces, Janet Singletary, Barbara Mitchely, and Karen Phipps; and his nephews, Keith Phipps, Jimmy Phipps, Cecil Phipps, Junior Phipps, Dan Barfield, Anthony Barfield, Talmadge Rogers, and Philip Rogers, along with many extended family members who were dear to him.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Cecil Phipps, Elwood Phipps, and Shelton Phipps; and his sisters, Myrtle Barfield and Margie McKay.
A faithful member of North Rome Church of God, Robert lived his faith quietly and sincerely. He had a servant’s heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand, never seeking praise or recognition. He found happiness in traveling, camping, and spending time outdoors, but his greatest joy came from being with his family, sharing stories, laughter, and simple moments that became lasting memories.
Robert’s life will be honored with a graveside service at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Gary Daniels, Terry Lumpkin, Cole Bryan, Justin Lumpkin, Kaleb Coleman, and Mark Rosson. A Visitation will be held at North Rome Church of God on Saturday, January 10th from 12:30PM till Funeral Service Time at 2:00PM.
Good Shepherd Funeral Home is honored to serve the Phipps family during this time.
