In Loving Memory of Ronnie Aaron Channell
December 20, 1954 – April 8, 2025
Some souls who arrive into this world not with fanfare, but with a quiet fire. The come with a brightness all their own. Ronnie Aaron Channell, born December 20, 1954, in the red clay warmth of Cartersville, Georgia, carried that kind of fire. A man of movement and meaning, humor and heart, Ronnie passed from this life on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, in Rome, Georgia, at the age of seventy.
He was the cherished son of the late Otis “Jack” Channell and Rosie Channell, people who knew the value of hard work, honest conversation, and a well-tended family. From their roots, Ronnie sprang like a wild oak, grounded and giving shade to all who came near.
He leaves behind his devoted wife and companion in life’s long dance, Sherry Channell, who stood by him through seasons both stormy and sweet. He was the beloved father of four daughters; Tobey Lowrance, Stacey Black, Aleshia Channell, and Tori Pearson; each carrying in her spirit a trace of his candor, his laughter, his drive. His legacy blooms in the lives of his eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, little pieces of him stretching forward into a world that will never quite be the same without him.
Ronnie is also survived by his brother, Ricky Channell, and sisters, Iva Bridges and Bertie Howren, kin whose stories are forever intertwined with his. A circle of nieces and nephews, too numerous to name but no less beloved, will remember him not only as an uncle but as a compass and a confidant.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Lexi Head and great-granddaughter Lacey Edwards, who no doubt greeted him with open arms at heaven’s gate. He now joins his brothers, Otis Channell and Jimmy Channell, and his sister, Linda Baker. There was a heavenly reunion of their souls that defies time.
Ronnie was a man who did not care much for pretense. He loved the open sky, the hush of a lake at dawn, the smell of sawdust and steel, the thrill of a slot machine spinning its promise. He could often be found building something; a car, a cabin, a memory. He was always in motion, always with a purpose. The outdoors called to him like a second home, and he answered faithfully with fishing pole, camping gear, and stories that danced over the campfire’s glow.
He was funny in that way only the most honest men are. The kind of funny that sees right through you and loves you anyway. Blunt, yes. But only because the truth was the gift he gave freely, never wrapped in excuses. If Ronnie loved you, and if you were his, you knew it, because there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for you. His presence was his promise, and he kept it.
A service to honor Ronnie’s life will be held Sunday, April 13, 2025, in the chapel of Good Shepherd Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM, with the funeral to follow at 4:00 PM. Family and friends will be invited to speak, to laugh, to cry, and to remember the man who lived like a freight train at full-speed, unapologetic, and unforgettable. He will be laid to rest at Lindale Cemetery, carried by pallbearers Kayle Wilson, Preston Channell, Brittan Brock, Alex Shafer, Lee Shafer, and Cameron Taylor.
Good Shepherd Funeral Home is honored to carry out the final arrangements for a man who built, who loved, and who never once backed down from the truth.
Rest easy, Ronnie.
