In Loving Memory of
Sara Rebecca Durst Smith
November 11, 1932-June 1, 2024
Sara Rebecca Durst Smith, 91, of Armuchee, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2024.
Born on November 11, 1932, in Akron, Ohio, Sara was the cherished daughter of the late Charles Elbridge Durst and Charlcie A. Jones Durst.
In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded in death by her faithful husband, James W. Smith; her daughter, Lori Smith; her son-in-law, Delmer Esters; her granddaughter, Lily Degan; and her sister, Marjorie Durst.
Sara is survived by her devoted daughters, Lynne Bell (Russell), Lesley Esters Thomas (Rick), and Lisa Smith (Patrick). She was a proud and loving Meemaw to grandchildren Benjamin Esters (Lexi), Katherine Esters, Samuel Esters (Alisha), Liam Degan, and James Degan. Her family was her greatest joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Sara was also blessed through the many friendships she gained as a member of Floyd Springs Baptist Church and TOPS 0344 of Rome, Georgia.
Sara was an incredibly energetic, inquisitive, and effervescent person. She devoured books, played the piano with gusto, and was happiest when helping others. After her youngest child graduated from college, Sara pursued her own lifelong educational dream and at age 57 became a licensed practical nurse.
Sara will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, dedication, and kindness will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to be a part of her life. She will be laid to rest at Rainbow Memorial Gardens in Gadsden, Alabama, and will be remembered with love and gratitude.
Parnick Jennings Good Shepherd Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements, ensuring Sara's final journey is handled with dignity and respect.
