Shelby Jean Garrett Ogles, 77, of Adairsville, Georgia, formerly of Rome, Georgia passed away Tuesday January 20, 2015. A native of Rome, Shelby was born June 8 1937, to the late M.W. Garrett and the late Venice Minshew Garrett. She was also preceded in death by a brother, David Garrett. Shelby was a 1956 graduate of Rome High and was employed for 28 years by Floyd County Schools as a bus driver for the Coosa Community. She also worked in the shoe department of Belk's and for the Carnegie Library as a driver for the Book-Mobile.
Shelby was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She and her late husband, Georgie Albert Ogles Jr. were married for 53 years. Shelby was well known for her delicious southern cooking and baking as well as her beautiful singing voice. Shelby volunteered as a Sunday School, VBS and Good News Club teacher and sang in the Church Choir.
Shelby is survived by her daughter, Michelle Ogles, Adairsville, her grandson US Navy Aircrewman Brandon Ogles, NAS Jacksonville and a niece Kristi Garrett Hinson, Sumter, South Carolina.
The family will receive friends Thursday January 22 at 5:00pm at Calvary Baptist Church, Rome. A Memorial Service will follow visitation at 6:00pm with Rev. Gary Graves officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions are made to the Alzheimer's Association. The family may be reached at the home of Shelby's daughter in Adairsville at all other times.
