Steven Peek Obituary

In Loving Memory of Steven Lee Peek
November 7, 1952 – April 12, 2026

Steven Lee Peek, lovingly known as Steve, age 73, of Rome, Georgia, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026. Steve was a man whose presence could light up any room, bringing joy, laughter, and warmth to everyone he met. With his vibrant spirit, adventurous heart, and unforgettable sense of humor, he made life brighter for all who were blessed to know him.

Steve proudly served his country in the United States Army, answering the call during the draft as Draft #17. He carried that same spirit of dedication and strength throughout his life and career. A skilled Union Local 72 plumber and pipe fitter, Steve was respected for his hard work, craftsmanship, and loyalty. His buddies affectionately called him “Player,” a nickname that perfectly matched his fun-loving and charismatic personality.

He had a gift for taking difficult or complicated situations and turning them into something good and manageable. Whether it was working with his hands, helping a friend, or simply sharing a laugh, Steve had a way of making life feel lighter.

Steve deeply loved the life he built. He treasured his home on Mount Alto, a place close to his heart, and took pride in the house he built with his own hands. He loved riding his beloved Softail Harley-Davidson, attending NASCAR races with yearly tickets, watching stock car races, and celebrating the many trophies he won while racing throughout Georgia and Alabama. He also enjoyed horseshoes, traveling, spending time at the beach, and making unforgettable memories with friends.

One of the greatest blessings of Steve’s life was reconnecting with his high school sweetheart, Darlene, after 40 years apart. Their love story came full circle when they reunited and married, a beautiful reminder that true love always finds its way home.

Steve was also a devoted animal lover who adored his cats and faithful dog, and he never met a stranger. His playful spirit showed in the jokes and harmless pranks he loved to pull on friends, always leaving laughter in his wake.

He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene Peek; son, Taylor Lee Peek and wife Holly; daughter, Morgan Leigh Peek; cherished granddaughter, Maggie Eloise Peek; brothers, Carlton Peek and wife Lynn, and Jeffery Peek; sister, Elaine Peek Snow and husband Tommy; nieces, Katie Lewis and Traci Hall; and nephews, Jay Peek, Patrick Peek, and Ben Peek.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eloise Johnston Peek and Carl Hobart Peek (“Red”), and his brother, Christopher Peek.

Steve will be remembered for his adventurous nature, his laughter, his loyalty to friends, and the way he brought light wherever he went. How lucky we are to have known someone so special that saying goodbye feels so hard.
