In Loving Memory of
Mrs. Thelma Annette Hancock Blake
October 22, 1953 – August 25, 2024
Mrs. Thelma Annette Hancock Blake, age 70, of Lindale, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024. Born on October 22, 1953, in Atlanta, Georgia, Thelma was the daughter of the late James Edgar Hancock, Sr. and the late Mildred Louise Collins Hancock Johnson. Her life was a rich tapestry woven with faith, family, and the simple pleasures that brought her joy.
Thelma's journey through life was one marked by her unwavering Christian faith, which guided her every step. She was a devoted member of her church community, where she found spiritual nourishment and a sense of belonging. Her faith was her compass, providing her with strength in times of hardship and filling her life with hope and purpose. She cherished the fellowship of her church family and found great joy in attending services, where she could worship and connect with others who shared her deep belief in the power of faith.
A loving and devoted wife, Thelma shared a deep and enduring bond with her husband, Jonny Blake. Their marriage was a partnership filled with love, mutual respect, and a shared love for life's simple pleasures. Together, they created a home that was warm, welcoming, and filled with the sounds of laughter and the strains of country gospel music, which Thelma loved to listen to on the radio. Her love for this genre of music was a reflection of her roots and her deep connection to the values of faith, family, and tradition.
As a mother, Thelma was the heart and soul of her family. She took immense pride in her children—Joseph Hancock and John Ferguson, and her daughters, April Ballenger and Brandi Blaylock. She was a guiding light for them, always there with a listening ear, a word of encouragement, or a comforting hug. Her love for her children was matched only by her devotion to her grandchildren, Joseph Hancock II, Bryan Hancock, Anthony Hancock, Aria Hancock, Abigail Ferguson, and Jayden Ferguson. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she delighted in being a part of their lives, watching them grow, and sharing in their accomplishments.
Thelma's love extended beyond to her brothers, John Hancock and Ronnie Hancock, and her sister, Tracy Hawkins. She cherished the bonds she shared with them, as well as with her numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy.
She was preceded in death by her dear brothers James Hancock Jr. and Kenneth Hancock. Also, her loving sisters Ronda Hodges, Janice Robbins, Jayne Sullins, Shelly Hawkins and Cheryl Wand.
Thelma was a woman of many passions, each one adding a layer of richness to her life. She had a sharp mind and a love for word puzzles, which she enjoyed solving in her quiet moments. Bingo was another of her favorite pastimes, providing her with both entertainment and a social outlet. She was also an avid fan of dirt races, a sport she followed with enthusiasm and excitement. Her love for movies offered her countless hours of enjoyment, and she took pleasure in exploring new films and revisiting her favorites.
One of Thelma's greatest joys was dining out, where she could enjoy good food and good company. Whether it was a casual meal or a special occasion, she savored these moments as opportunities to connect with loved ones and create lasting memories.
Thelma's life was a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the little things that make life meaningful. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she loved.
A memorial service to honor her life will be held at Coosa Valley Praise and Worship Center on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 11:00AM with Pastor Steve Kelley officiating. The family will hold an interment of the ashes at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Parnick Jennings Good Shepherd Funeral Home, ensuring that Thelma's final journey is handled with the care and respect she so richly deserves.
