In Loving Memory of Walter Scott “Walt” Hood
September 18, 1941 – April 10, 2026
Walter Scott “Walt” Hood, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and faithful servant of the Lord, entered his eternal rest on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the age of 84, surrounded by the love of his family. His life was marked by service, integrity, unwavering faith, and a deep commitment to God and to the people he cherished most.
Born on September 18, 1941, Walt carried a spirit of dedication and purpose throughout his life. He proudly served his country for eight years in the United States Navy, carrying with him a lifelong sense of honor, discipline, and patriotism. Following his military service, he continued his education at Tennessee Temple University, where he deepened both his knowledge and his faith.
Walt was a faithful member of Pisgah Baptist Church, where he joyfully lived out his beliefs through service. He taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and often blessed the congregation as a soloist. His love for worship and his servant’s heart touched countless lives over the years.
A gifted businessman, Walt owned and operated Walt Hood Insurance Agency and Walt Hood Insurance Services, serving his community with honesty, compassion, and a sincere desire to help others. To his clients, he was much more than an insurance agent, he was a trusted friend.
Above all else, Walt treasured his family. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially during family gatherings filled with games, laughter, storytelling, and of course, his famously “corny” jokes. Bringing the corn was always his specialty, and he delivered it with joy every single time.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Karen Anderson Hood; his sons, Kent Hood, Scott (Rebecca) Hood, Ray (Kim) Hood, and Norman (Gerrika) Hood; his daughters, Karen Clark, Mary (Tim) Frazier, Rebekah Hall, Joy Scannapiego, and Deborah (Ray) Beauchamp; his cherished grandchildren, Hayden Hood, Heaven Hood, Lindsey Horton, Tyler Clark, Morgan Clark, Kaitlynn Hood, Kassidy Hood, Maddie Hood, Jacob Hood, Mason Littlejohn, Katie Frazier, Jordan Hood, Jonathan Hood, Jamison Hood Mayes, Meredith Butler, Ben Hall, Hope Elders, James Hood, Carter Hood, Adalyn Hood, and Elaina Hood; and six great-grandchildren, all of whom will continue his legacy of faith, love, and laughter.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandchildren, Braden Elders, Emma Elders, and Harrison Hood; his parents, Betty Jane Thompson and Ernie Hood; and his sister, Barbara Hartledge.
Those who knew Walt will forever remember his steadfast love for the Lord, his devotion to family, his service to his country, and the warmth and humor he brought into every room he entered. His legacy of faith, kindness, and joy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
