Wayne Huckaby Obituary

Wayne Allen Huckaby

January 23, 1948 – May 28, 2026

Wayne Allen Huckaby, age 78, of Rome, Georgia, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of those who meant the most to him. Born on January 23, 1948, in Rome, Georgia, Wayne was the son of the late James Calvin Huckaby and Martha Kinsey Bickers.

Wayne lived a life defined by hard work, service, laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family. A proud United States Army veteran, he honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he built a successful career as a contractor, owning and operating his own construction company. Wayne took great pride in his work and was happiest when he was building something with his hands, whether it was a home, a renovation, or a fresh coat of paint that brought new life to a place.

While his work was important to him, it was the people in his life who mattered most. Wayne was known throughout the community as a friendly, outgoing man who never met a stranger. He cherished his friendships and loved spending time with those closest to him. Weekends often found him and his beloved wife, June, out dancing with friends, making memories and enjoying life together. Wayne had a wonderful sense of humor and a mischievous streak that kept everyone around him smiling. He loved a good prank, a hearty laugh, and bringing joy to others whenever he could.

Above all, Wayne was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in each of their accomplishments and milestones. The love he shared, the lessons he taught, and the example he set will continue to live on through the generations he leaves behind.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of many years, June Williamon Huckaby; his daughters, Rhonda Bannister (Tony), Tammy Statham (Jeff), Crystal Huckaby (Jackson), Amanda Wheeling (Charlie), and Jennifer Chrjapin (Jason); his brothers, Wayne Mobbs and Calvin Huckaby; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren, all of whom were a tremendous source of pride and joy in his life.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Blake Bannister, whose memory he carried close to his heart.

At Wayne’s request, no formal funeral or memorial service will be held. His family will honor his wishes through private remembrance and by celebrating the life of a man who loved deeply, worked tirelessly, laughed often, and left an unforgettable mark on all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Wayne’s honor to a children’s hospital of your choice or to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, causes that were meaningful to him.

Though he may be gone from our sight, Wayne’s legacy of love, laughter, strength, and dedication will remain in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
