With immense sorrow, we announce the passing of Mr. William Lawson Hall, aged 97, of Gaylesville, Alabama, on Saturday, December 30, 2023. Born to John Crayton Hall and Lenis Sprayberry Hall in Cedar Bluff, Alabama, on July 14, 1926, William's life was a remarkable journey of dedication, love, and unwavering commitment to his family and community.

In addition to his parents, John and Lennis Hall, William is predeceased by his wife Shirley Dale Quinn Hall, daughters, Rita S. Ledford (Mike), and Sonya Meyers; his son-in-law Gary Roberts (Cynthia); his brothers, Leonard Hall (Colleen) of Alabama, Ted Hall (Sue) of Kentucky, and Rex Hall of Rome, Georgia, and his sisters, Katy Faye Jackson and Sarah Joe Loveless; and his grandchild that passed away at two years old.

William's legacy continues through his children Rick Hall (Lee) of Rome, Georgia; Doyle Hall of Tennessee; Mickey Hall (Darlene) of Cedar Bluff, Alabama, and Cynthia Roberts (Gary) of Cedar Bluff, Alabama; and his son-in-law Mike Ledford, Sr. (Rita). His memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren Michelle Cook (David) of Piedmont, Alabama, Nikol Bevels Daly (Jason) of Rome, Georgia, Brandi Waters (Jamey) of Calhoun, Georgia, Marcia Langley (Jason) of Sandrock, Alabama, Farrah Roebuck (Stephen), Mike Ledford, Jr. (Tina) of Sandrock, Alabama, Celina Crider (Heath) of Cedar Bluff, Alabama, and Dustin Roberts (Stacey) of Cedar Bluff, Alabama, Jennifer Hall, Allison Sutherland, Larissa Apolinar, Gabriel Sutherland, Bryan (Jonina) Myers, Amber Steele, Jenifer Steele, Elisha (Justin) Norton, Leighann Santoyo (Jorge), Bridget Hall, 36 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

William proudly served his country in the United States Army, contributing to both the Airborne and Infantry divisions. His post-military career was marked by a long tenure at the Celanese Corporation, where he specialized in the production of cellulose acetate. In retirement, William found joy in life’s simplest pleasures by nurturing his family, being active in his grandchildren’s lives, and sharing his love for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, a passion he imparted to his family with great enthusiasm.

Renowned for his big heart and readiness to assist those around him, William's character was defined by his hard work, devotion to family, and the ability to bring joy and support to those he loved. His impact on the lives he touched is immeasurable and will be forever remembered.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to two truly exceptional individuals. DJ and Micky Hall,  cherished friends and dedicated caregivers, they both held a special place in our father's heart for many years. DJ's presence on his life was nothing short of angelic.

We invite family and friends to join us in celebrating William's life at the visitation on Thursday, January 4, 2023, from 12:30-1:30PM at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel, located at 2750 Shorter Avenue, Rome, Georgia 30165. A graveside service will follow at 2:00PM at Salem Cemetery, where we will bid a final farewell to a truly remarkable man.

The honorary pallbearers, chosen to symbolically see William off to his eternal home are Dustin “Duck” Roberts, Heath Crider, Kylee Jade Crider, Austin “Red” Roebuck, Brian Meyer, Crayton Roberts and Mike Ledford.

William's family expresses their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this time of remembrance.
