It is with great sorrow that we mourn the passing of William Sidney Momon, age 94 of Rome who went to join the Lord and his recently departed wife on January 2nd, 2024. He was born in Rome, Georgia on July 16, 1929. He attended Coosa Schools. William Sidney Momon also known as “Pawpaw” to family was adored by many. One of them being his late wife who passed 5 weeks prior, Edna Lee Momon. Sid was the founder and CEO of WSM Trucking in Floyd County.
He was also treasured by his two children, Bobby Momon and Ann (Billy) Daniel, grandchildren Starla (Chip) Smith, Shay (Amber) Momon, Alley Callan, Lynn Daniel, and Kate (Christian) Terry, great- grandchildren, Emily Smith, Jenna (Jack) Moore, Ansley and Knox Callan, Shaylin, Kaydence, and Colten Momon, Emma and Callie Terry, and great-great-grandson, Jaxson Moore.
To his church and friends, he was known as “Sid Momon.” Sid’s life was driven by hard work ethics and family. Sid’s absence will create a permanent void for his loved ones; however, his legacy will forever remain for generations to come.
Sid Momon and his late wife Edna L Momon were married for almost 76 years. Sid Momon loved to work on cars and trucks as well as going camping in his motor home. Sid worked most of his life and didn’t retire until the age of 86. The most memorable job Sid had as a young adult was the railroad. He worked on the railroad at the age of 15 making .57 cents an hour. He was a member of the Mt. Caramel Baptist Church. He is gone, but he will never be forgotten.
Sid Momon was proceeded in death by his wife Edna Momon, his mother and father, Gertrude Allred Momon and William (Bill) Alexander Momon, three brothers, Lamar, Leonard, and Carl Momon, two sisters, Inez Howell, and Frances Gilreath. He is survived by children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great- grandson.
We will be gathering to honor the life of William Sidney Momon on Sunday, January 7th, 2024, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home at 2:00pm-4:00pm and the funeral services will follow at 4:00 PM. Graveside will be Monday January 8th, 2:00pm at Oaknoll.
